Privacy policy
Protecting your private information is our priority. This privacy policy applies to Clo and governs the data collection and usage for anyone using our mobile application in the United States. The Clo application is a social app that allows college students to match for experiences. By using the Clo application, you consent to the data practices described in this policy.
Collection of your personal information
We do not collect any personal information about you unless you voluntarily provide it to us or use our service. Clo needs to collect information in order to best allow you to match with other users for experiences. To best provide you with our services, Clo may collect information from you, from your use of the application, and from others.
Information that Clo may collect from you. During the account creation process, Clo collects the following information: your first and last name, college, age, gender, Instagram username, LinkedIn profile, email, a profile photo from your device's photo library, an experience name, and the description of your experience.
Information that Clo may collect from your use of the app. To allow you to match with users for the most meaningful experiences, we might collect: what experiences you reply to the most, what type of experiences you reply to the most, how often you reply to experiences, messages (to enable the chat functionality), who you have added as your friends, what users you reply to the most, the type of users that you write to the most, and how often you reply to users.
Information that Clo may collect from others. We might collect the following information to be able to carry out our services: email address to facilitate Apple Sign In authentication, IP address, mobile device type, crash reports, and safety reports on your account by other users.
How Clo uses your personal information
Clo uses your information in order to deliver and improve our services for you.
To allow you to match for meaningful experiences, Clo uses your personal information to: allow you to create and edit your account; help you come up with experiences; show you the best experiences for you; recommend you users to connect with; show your profile to other users; create chats and engage in conversation; and allow you and other users to add each other as friends.
To continue to improve our services for you, Clo uses your personal information to: understand how you use our service and features; carry out data analytics for app optimization; address reported accounts; maintain the Clo community as a safe community for college students; and reply to any emails we may receive from you.
It is important to note that while your gender might be used to best recommend experiences to you and your date of birth is used to calculate your age, your gender and date of birth are never disclosed publicly and are kept safe using industry acceptable means.
Sharing with third parties & data storage
Although Clo does not allow third parties to use or buy your information, we may store your data on servers within the United States of third-party hosting vendors with whom we have contracted. These cloud database companies are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide storage and data analytics services to Clo, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.
However, Clo may disclose your personal information without notice, if required to do so by law to comply with legal process served on Clo, protect and defend the rights or property of Clo, and/or act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of Clo or the public.
Security of your personal information
Clo secures your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. We strive to take appropriate security measures and use robust commercially acceptable means to protect against unauthorized access to or alteration of your personal information. For example, the data servers that Clo uses count with the rigorous ISO 27001 certification.
Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet or any wireless network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, you acknowledge that there are security and privacy limitations inherent to the Internet which are beyond our control, and that the security, integrity, and privacy of any data exchanged between you and Clo through the Internet cannot be guaranteed.
Right to deletion
You have the right to delete your user information at any moment. Clo keeps your information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy or to comply with legal obligations.
If you choose to exercise your right to delete your information, you can do so by contacting us or do so on Clo. You can email us at the address below and tell us to help you delete or edit your data. Alternatively, by signing in to your account on Clo and going to the account settings page, you can delete your information by clicking on the Delete Account button, or delete your data by clicking on the Reset Account button in case you want to continue to use Clo. Once your request is received, your personal information will be deleted from our records.
However, please note that Clo may need to keep certain information for an extended period if legally required to: (a) comply with legal process served on Clo; (b) investigate illegal activity or a security incident; (c) protect and defend the rights or property of Clo; and/or (d) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of Clo or the public.
Children under thirteen
Children under the age of thirteen are not allowed to use Clo. Clo does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of thirteen. If you are aware that someone under the age of thirteen has provided us with personal data, please contact us at the email below, and steps will be taken to remove their personal data from our servers.
Links to other apps and websites
Clo may contain links to other mobile applications and websites. These third-party apps or sites are not controlled by Clo, and Clo has no responsibility over the content or information that you may provide upon clicking their links. You are advised to review the privacy policies and practices of these third parties.
Changes to this statement
Clo reserves the right to change this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you about significant changes in the way we treat personal information by posting the new Privacy Policy information on this page, or by placing a prominent notice on our application. You are advised to periodically review our privacy policy on this page for effective changes, although we will also try to contact you for prior notice. Your continued use of the application and/or Services available after such modifications will constitute your acknowledgment of the modified Privacy Policy, and agreement to abide and be bound by that Policy.
